Even an old man loves this game
I've been a gamer for years, but lately I've found that a lot of new games are just retread of old games with better graphics and sound. Or they simply just suck -- e.g. Mech Warrior 3. Roller Coaster Tycoon (RCT) certainly isn't that. I found the game, addictive, exciting and fun. The first time I booted it up I was planning on just figuring it out for a couple of minutes. To my surprise, I played for about 4 hours straight. I was so immersed that I completely lost track of time and space.I think that the most interesting part of the game is how deep the game is and how many different variable one has to keep track of while building and running an amusement park. Also, I found it very challanging as I tried to update my park from kiddie rides to the more exciting rollercoasters. Finally, you can monitor the thoughts and actions of your customers and modify your park to respond to their needs. This game is a blast!

The best sim game ever has finally come to PC!
This addicting game is a best seller and for a good reason. This fun (and sometimes funny) game requires a lot of free time, a strategic brain, and a good imagination.RCT has a very user-friendly interface. It is easy to roam around your park, create and maintain rides, hire staff (janitors, mechanics, security guards, and entertainers), keep the park clean, and much more. Even if you're new to this game, a quick overlook at the game's features will get you going. But even a quick look won't satisfy you with this very addicting game. I can guarantee that you'll want to play this all day and night.Creating your own ride is very fun. Make all the drops, vertical loops, etc. you want. But be careful to keep within the budget range! Sounds hard? It gets harder as it unlocks more parks as you complete scenarios. So Addicting It Should Be Illegal!
Have you ever gone to an amusement park and thought you could make the rides just a little bit better, at least in your imagination? Well folks, here's your chance. Especially if you have any love for rollercoasters. A little warning though, when I first bought the game I stayed up until 5:00 in the morning playing it so if you buy this game for your kids you might want to monitor how long they play. You are set up as the budding Theme Park tycoon and your initial goal is to attract a certain amount of guests to your park with a certain level of customer satisfaction (your park is rated by each guest and the computer keeps track). If you start from scratch (the funnest way to play, hands down) you will get frustrated. Your rollercoasters that you design most likely won't work exactly as you plan, but it's ok you can fix it. Same Old...
It is important to note there is nothing new in this game. It is just a re-release of the game and its two expansion packs. So, if you have Rollercoaster Tycoon and the expansion packs, don't bother, Rollercoaster Tycoon II is coming this fall.But if you dont have any of the RCT games yet, this is a good buy.

Windows XP Compatability
There is a patch you can download at Atari's web site to make the expansion pack Loopy Landscapes work on a PC running Windows XP. The Roller Coaster Tycoon CD itself already runs fine under Windows XP, but the expansion packs Corkscrew Follies and Loopy Landscapes do not run under Windows XP even if you change the compatibility mode on your PC for Windows 95/98. The patch will make Loopy Landscapes run fine using Windows XP, and since it already includes Corkscrew Follies, you do not need to worry about trying to get that CD to work.Also, the RollerCoaster Tycoon Gold Edition pack that we just purhased from Amazon already has the downloadable patch applied to the Loopy Landscapes expansion pack CD, so we didn't even need to download the patch.So, those of you running Windows XP on your PC and can't get Loopy Landscapes to work, go download that patch and have fun using your expansion pack.

The Original Version of Rollercoaster Tycoon....I love it!!
Well...I had this version of Roller Coaster Tycoon for my old Windows and when I got my new puter with Windows XP a couple of years ago...much to my chagrin, my Roller Coaster Tycoon did not transfer.I had gotten this for my son to play, and he is now grown and gone. We tried other versions of Roller Coaster Tycoon...but really none were as fun as the original one.Once he left...I had empty nest syndrome pretty badly. I looked in the stores for the original version of RCT to see if they had made it compatible with Windows XP and could not find it. But I was told it might be available online...and I was delighted when I found it on Amazon.I ordered it and have enjoyed it immensely. I love Evergreen Gardens and I play it through and accumulate alot of money on it, then flatten it and make a Serenity Garden where I can make banners with Scriptures and everything. At last.
I was most disappointed when I found I could no longer play the original game on my system and was really pleased when I saw this game for XP. I am enjoying playing it, nothing has changed and it is as much fun as the original. The only drawback is that the amounts are all in American dollars and seeing as they ship globally you would have thought there would have been a currency option. Having said that, it is still really good and I spend many happy hours in my own theme parks!

"Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 - Triple Thrill Pack" finally delivers the RCT2 I wanted. It not only lets you simulate building amusement parks, complete with rides, food & drink stalls, and other attractions, but this pack includes a huge number of different coasters and examples of each type, and also allows you to try to build your own coasters. There are many other types of amusement park rides, including log flumes and water slides, merry-go-rounds and ferris wheels, go kart race tracks and car rides, and many others. Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 Platinum
I have run all 3 versions of Roller Coaster Tycoon and this last version takes most of the problems and glitches that were in the first release and either corrects them or gets rid of them. At the same time though, it also created some new ones. For instance in the original release the gargoyle statues that are animated to lean forward and shoot fire out of their mouths, no longer have the fire, they just lean forward and open their mouths but nothing comes out. It also has combined the two expansion packs (Wild and Soaked) onto the same disc so all games are installed at the same time.A work of caution though. This is a very high end graphic and memory heavy game. You really need a top line machine with lots of Ram memory, a fast processor and a high end graphics card with lots of memory and very fast screen rendering. If you try to run this on a standard system it will slow down as you add rides and scenery to the point where it's impossible to use. And it doesn't...

RCT3 - finally complete!
Roller Coaster Tycoon has been one of the most successful of the 'tycoon' games on the market today, and it's easy to see why. RCT is probably, down and away, one of the most fun and addictive of all the tycoon games. This version of RCT3 now has all the expansions included with the main game: "Roller Coaster Tycoon 3," "RCT3: Soaked!", and "RCT3: Wild!".I've played all three - RCT1, RCT2, and now RCT3. I enjoy all of the franchise. I've always wondered what it would be like to BE Walt Disney - even if it's just in a game. Great collection of games, a lot of fun!
I read a lot of reviews about this game not running properly on windows 7 so before I paid for it and downloaded it I downloaded the demo from the developer website to try it out. The demo worked fine so I purchased and installed the game and it works perfectly. The game comes with the original roller coaster tycoon 3 along with 2 expansion packs - soaked and wild. This means a lot of scenarios and a lot more rides to choose from than if you were just playing the original version. I haven't played too much with the wild expansion (which basically lets you incorporate a zoo into your park) but I have played with the soaked expansion and it is a lot of fun. Overall this game is great and I recommend it to anyone who likes to play simulation games. If you are unsure about whether the game will work on your system, I suggest doing what I did and trying the demo before purchasing!

This is by far the BEST game Infogrames (and almost all other computer entertainment companies) has ever brought to the stores.I have played the original game for a year now, and I never dreamed Cris Sawyer could think of this much more. But RCT 2 has it all. There are tons of new roller coasters-they have the LIM powered coaster, the Spiral rollercoaster, etc. You can also build other new rides that aren't roller coasters, like the submarines ride.And there are tons of new shops, including Star Fruit drink stalls, first-aid stalls, and ATMs.Guests are smarter, too. Nobody could have predicted the phenomenal success of humble, little Roller Coaster Tycoon. Such simple, addictive games had been tried before; even the whole amusement park idea had been done in Theme Park, but RCT exploded with unmatched success. Legions of gamers enjoyed the colorful graphics, the simple but ever-so-opinionated patrons, the easy-to-master financial model, and the thrill of building, testing, and then watching customers enjoy your own roller coaster--or watching with glee as they got sick after their first ride! Roller Coaster Tycoon had the winning combination of fun and mainstream appeal that catapulted it to the top of the charts and spawned two expansion packs, as well as a horde of imitators. Ironically, Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 itself is an imitator of RCT. Perhaps in an effort not to spoil a good thing, or perhaps to guarantee success with low-system-spec mainstream fans, Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 plays almost exactly like the original game--maybe too much like it.

The graphics are still 2-D, and if you didn't know better you'd swear you were looking at the first game. This isn't good considering that the first game came out in 2000 and looked dated even then. But the ability to play the game at a much higher resolution does alleviate some of this disappointment, and a closer look reveals a greater variety of animation, more people, and a smoother overall look. The audio is, again, fantastic. It's that perfect mix of screams, giggles, grumbles, retches, and carnival music that brings the scent of cotton candy to your nose every time.

New structures are available as well as some new rides, but the biggest change is the addition of themes. Want a Haunted Park? They've given you the artwork to create one. You'll also find a Wild West theme, a children's theme, and more. The scenarios are grouped more logically by difficulty, and fans will be delighted with a sand box mode that allows limitless free play. RCT2 has a wide variety of new coaster designs, including a few famous coasters from around the world--mostly from Six Flags theme parks. A welcome addition is the ability to open a separate screen where you can test and build a custom coaster, without worrying about space or money, before buying and placing it in the game. Perhaps the best new addition is the ability to raise and lower ground en masse, removing one of the most annoying features of the first game.

Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 isn't a ground-breaking sequel, but it is an excellent game for fans of the series. We wish they'd done more with the concept, brought it into 3-D, or used higher-resolution artwork, but the gameplay remains the same. And that's a thrill ride on its own. --Andrew S. Bub

More of the same....fun, engaging, but sometimes complex
After many of the 'Tycoon' style games that have been popular over the last few years, the reigning king was a simple family style game called Roller Coaster Tycoon. After two successful expansion packs, developer Chris Sawyer waited well over a year to launch Rollercoaster Tycoon 2. The sequel is based on a no brainer..."Build it and they will come". Seeing that the first game and its expansions still sell well, Infogrames already has a large base of built in fans looking for more of the same, but will these fans love '2', and will this attract new fans? Time will tell.Overall, the look and feel of the game remains relatively the same. Great game, but with some disappointments
For at least a year, I was addicted to the first Roller Coaster Tycoon and its expansion packs, though I'm more into the "building a fun park" aspect of the game than the "building a great roller coaster" aspect. It always seemed that you could win most scenarios using the designed rides provided, and I never saw much point in spending the money to design new ones.To that end, RCT2 has two great features - the coaster designer and the scenario editor. I used the scenario editor last night, and I found it fun, though it did require me to refer to the instruction manual for guidance more than once. I could wish for a more intuitive design. I haven't used the coaster designer yet, but I am looking forward to streching my design wings this weekend.Two other pluses are the amount of new rides and shops and the fact that all of the scenarios are immediately avaiable for play.
